So, if you want something suggestively spooky or PG Halloween kids and parents can watch, this story of Elizabeth Bathory and the children of the night is an ok choice.
I was surprised at how the movie was really carried by children actors. It's actually a fresh take on The Countess.
Better than most movies and honestly on Prime a gem. The only gripe is the accents are inconsistent. A Romanian gypsy girl that speaks perfect English?!
While the Countess has a heavy accent as well as the sister if the gypsy girl. I loved this movie though.
Everyone is bad mouthing this movie, but what they are all forgetting is it was a B Rate movie, with a low budget to begin with.
That being kept in mind, it actually wasn't that bad of a movie. Could they have done better with this? Yes, yes they could have.
But given their budget and casting options, I feel they did a decent enough job with it. Side note worth mentioning is that while this is based off of truth, they have recently thrown doubt onto the validity of the claims that Elizabeth Bathory actually committed any of the crimes for which she was accused.
They have apparently found new proof that has lead them to speculate as to weather the accounts were falsified in order to take her land from her.
There have been numerous movies made about The Blood Queen. Some were just awful, others not very good. This one at least proves watchable and entertaining.
While not historically correct the context is present and it's a decent effort. See all reviews. Back to top.

Apr 10, Narelle D'amico rated it really liked it. Loved this book, I really didnt know a lot about the characters before I started reading Blood Queen but I think thats what made me like it more.
Such strong women with such fight in them. Love Joannas books. On to Fire Queen.
Assolutamente consigliato!
Cora MacDuff will be wedding her beloved Macbeth but on the evening before her nuptials traitors in their midst slaughter many and drive out Macbeth and his men.
Sibyll is a Dane living in York who is asked to become the wife of the heir to Scotland's throne. Both women see tragedy and joy as they strive to crown their menfolk.
This is a historical novel based on the life of the real Lady Macbeth. Once again, Courtney brings ancient history to life with her excellent writing.
Sei la regina regnate, [ I spent many months studying Macbeth in secondary school, and Lady Macbeth is portrayed by Shakespeare as being an ambitious schemer.
Those of this who are interested in Scottish history however, know that Macbeth was a strong king, whose reign was peaceful and prosperous, so I was intrigued as to what his wife Lady Macbeth was like.
Unfortunately, this novel is not the one to tell Blood Queen I enjoy historical drama, and when I saw this the real story of Lady Macbeth I had to request this book.
Unfortunately, this novel is not the one to tell me very much about her. For a start her name is Cora. It does explain in the notes at the end that the author considered her real name to be to much of a mouthful.
But Cora? In 11th century Scotland? There are horrific scenes early in the book of rape, violence, and anima cruelty.
Cora is horrifically raped and scarred. I really began to feel that I was reading a different version of Outlander. This book almost languished on my Did Not Finish shelf, but I did manage to get to the end.
The research into the back story of Alba as Scotland was known in the 11th Century is interesting. The dual story line of Cora and Sybil is also interesting but as a novel it was not what I hoped.
Thank to you the publishers and Netgalley for an advance ARC in return for an honest review. This seemed like an interesting read but I didn't realise for a while that it was based on real history as opposed to Shakespeare's play.
Macbeth is rumoured to be from my hometown but the real history is not something I was particularly aware of so I was looking forward to finding out more.
The chapters alternate between their two viewpoints. I preferred Sybil's character and story overall, I couldn't really buy into Cora's motivations and didn't feel like I got a meaningful insight into her character.
The author clearly did her research but the voice of the book just felt too modern. Would an 11th century queen really refer to her son as 'Lachy'?
It didn't help that names were changed to make them more accessible to the modern reader which I felt was unnecessary.
The plot also just felt a bit dull. It's almost impossible not to compare it to the Shakespeare tale and, in my opinion, it's just not a particularly interesting period of Scottish history.
Little things niggled me about the setting too like referring to Rosemarkie as 'Moray'. It may be on the Moray Firth but is most certainly not Moray.
Overall, it was solidly ok but I wouldn't be in a rush to recommend it to anyone. May 03, Liberty Jackson rated it it was amazing.
I absolutely adored this book. I love historical novels that are well researched enough that you learn plenty about the history without it feeling like you are being weighed down with unnecessary facts.
This book taught me loads about tenth century Scotland, how spread out it was, the practice of alternate succession, the danger and the religion.
I am personally very interested in Celtic Christianity, and how it developed separately from the Catholic Church, and there were just enough hints of I absolutely adored this book.
I am personally very interested in Celtic Christianity, and how it developed separately from the Catholic Church, and there were just enough hints of it here to draw me in.
There are two engaging female characters who are interesting and write their own stories, despite holding their power at least partly by their relation to men.
It is rare to read a book which deals so thoroughly with a conflict spread over decades, where it is so hard to take sides. I found myself routing for both sides to survive which is a world with the brutality of this one, was a recipe for heartache.
As it was set around little known historical events rather than following a standard three act structure, every twist and turn took me by surprise.
Blood Queen was not even slightly what I expected. But when the only criticism I really have is that it was a different book to the one I was expecting, I can one disappointed.
I was reading the story and the historical notes at the same times, got to page 33 and had to stop.

The palatine also coordinated the steps of the investigation with the political struggle with the Prince of Transylvania. Amazing story. The research into the back story of Alba as Scotland was known in the 11th Century is interesting. There's a particular flavour of historical fiction, and Blood Queen of Shakespeare rewrites, that hinges on making women suffer as much as possible. Inverness, Highlands Scozzesi del
